According to Marca, a tier-one Spanish news outlet, Atletico Madrid have rejected the opportunity to sign Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

On Monday, shocking rumours suggested that the 37-year-old could join Diego Simeone’s side as he attempts to leave Manchester United.

Marca understands Atletico have no intention of pursuing a deal simply because of Ronaldo’s exorbitant wages.

The report further adds that Cristiano’s agent Jorge Mendes has spoken to clubs like Chelsea, Bayern Munich and PSG – only for them all to opt against a transfer.

At United, the Portuguese superstar earns over £500,000-per-week in wages. However, he is up for a pay cut this season like the rest of the squad, which is believed to be one of the reasons why he wants to leave.

Ronaldo has another year to go on his contract and at this rate, it looks like he’s going nowhere.
