Frenkie de Jong’s move to Man United is still a distinct possibility despite strong words from Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
According to Marca, Barcelona have told the Dutchman that he has two options as far as his future is concerned.
He will either agree to ‘drastically’ lower his salary to prepare for a move to Old Trafford.
The clubs have already agreed on the general structure of the deal (€65m fixed plus €20m in add-ons). They are yet to reach an agreement over the nature of those bonuses.
Meanwhile, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has recently stated that the Catalan club is not interested in selling the Dutch midfielder.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Joan Laporta’s recent statements about ‘untouchable’ Frenkie de Jong haven’t impacted the club’s desire to sell him.
The president continues to negotiate with Manchester United. The two parties hope to strike an agreement next week.
What’s more, the player himself has been open to the move since he found out that the club are in favour of selling him.
Barcelona could receive up to €85m for the Dutchman’s sale, including add-ons.
