Frenkie de Jong has indicated in private that he is appealed to the prospect of joining Man United, as per The Athletic.
The Dutch midfielder seems to have finally accepted the prospect of leaving Barcelona in the summer and is pleased with the possibility of working with Erik ten Hag again.
However, the major stumbling block stopping the deal from progressing is the transfer fee and Barca’s demands.
United are hesitant to straight away pay the €80m (£68m) Spanish club is demanding. This probably means they want to make the payments in parts and not in one go.
The Red Devils realize Barca’s financial difficulties and do not wish to be the bailout for their problems.
That being said, negotiations are underway between the clubs as they look to find a mutual agreement to get a deal done as soon as possible.
