When asked about why he opted to pick Brentford goalkeeper David Raya ahead of the in-form David de Gea in his Spain squad for the upcoming games, Luis Enrique said: “It is part of the tracing we do with the goalkeepers.
“He is a player who is doing very well. I really want to see it in the context of the selection. He has the necessary profile to play with us.”
There have been suggestions that Enrique has not opted to play De Gea over the last year because of his questionable distribution skills.
The Spain manager’s tactics rely heavily on players being prolific with their distribution and he hasn’t been impressed by what he’s seen from the Man United no.1.
De Gea will instead enjoy a rest during the international break and hope to get back strongly for the next Premier League game against Leicester City on April 2.
