Addressing rumors that Chelsea might be looking to hijack Man United’s move for Frenkie de Jong, Gary Neville tweeted: “I was in Miami when Barca were there playing two weeks ago and I got told ( third hand ) De Jong preferred staying at Barca or Chelsea and London.
“Wasn’t a concrete source but this follows that thought.”
Despite the links with Chelsea, Man United are reportedly confident of their chances of signing the Barcelona midfielder and believe themselves to be leading the race for him.

Manchester United have been in contact with Barcelona for over 2 months now concerning the Dutch star’s transfer. However, there has not been any form of an agreement reached between the 26-year-old and the Red Devils.
Meanwhile, multiple sources have reported that De Jong is adamant on leaving Camp Nou this summer due to over €15m wages owned his by Barcelona. On the other hand, the midfielder is also not keen on accepting a pay cut offered to him the La Liga giants to remain at the club.
Again, should he leave Barcelona in the end, it would be for a Champions League playing team likely Chelsea. So at this point, Man United could be out of the race.
