In the FA Cup final on Saturday, Ruben Loftus-Cheek came off the bench at the break of extra time only to be replaced by Ross Barkley with seconds to go before the penalty shootout.
Thomas Tuchel says he brought on Barkley, known for his set-piece ability, for the penalties. The midfielder converted his spot-kick but it wasn’t enough as Mount and Azpilicueta missed their attempts.
“No, that was purely for penalties,” Tuchel said after the match if the substitution was caused by Loftus-Cheek picking up an injury.
“Ruben doesn’t have a good history and Ross has. So it was down to the penalties.”
