Speaking about Cesar Azpilicueta’s contract being renewed to 2023 and his future at Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel said: “I knew it was going to happen [that his contract was going to have an extra year]. It is good news for us.
“We have a contract and he has a contract, so there’s a very high probability that he will stay.”
The German gaffer also broke silence on Antonio Rudiger’s agents having a meeting with FC Barcelona over potentially joining them in the summer. He explained: “I would try to meet him if he was not our player.
“We still have a contract and have a good chance [to renew] when the ownership issue is sorted. It is fair enough if he listens to others but I am still confident.”
It looks like Chelsea will able to keep Azpilicueta for next season despite Spanish media claiming that he will convince the club to let him join Barca for free in the summer.
On Rudiger, it seems like Tuchel is confident of his chances of keeping him and renewing his contract once the ownership situation is resolved – meaning both the players could remain at Stamford Bridge next season.
