“Ethan Ampadu did very well in a good position for him, in the middle of a back three,” Thomas Tuchel said after the Club America game.
“He plays a lot of vertical passes, he did not play from left to right but only penetrated through the lines of the opponent with his passes and sometimes dribbling.
“Ethan Ampadu was very active and it was a good match from him. He also is training very well.”
Ampadu played the whole second half in this role and did not look out of place at all.
The Welsh international can also play in midfield, and his versatility, along with his last performances, makes him one to watch as Tuchel decides which loan army members deserve to stay at Chelsea for the next season.
