Donny van de Beek worked closely with Erik ten Hag during their time together at Ajax but he knows he has to put in the hard yards to become a regular starter for Manchester United.
Hitting out at suggestions he’s ‘guaranteed’ game time under Ten Hag, Van de Beek told club media: “Of course, everyone was saying that because I worked with him at Ajax, but, in the end, you have to play good from yourself and it doesn’t make any sense who is the coach.
“You have to find your role in the team and, of course, he knows me as a player, but that means nothing. I have to show it for myself.

“I will never change as a player. You can improve things, but you never have to change and I will not do that. Every player has his own qualities, me as well, and that’s it.”
Although Donny hasn’t started any of our pre-season games so far, he has impressed whenever brought on as a substitute.
The advantage with Ten Hag is he knows how to get the best out of Donny. Hopefully, that helps him perform better consistently.
