Erik ten Hag Explains What Man United Players Did That He Doesn’t Like From Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 Loss

The 37-year-old superstar was seemingly given a good reception when he first emerged out of the tunnel to warm up at the Threatre of Dreams.

Cristiano played the first 45 minutes of the friendly before being replaced by Amad Diallo at halftime – the only substitution Erik ten Hag made at the break.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner looked lacking in match fitness during his 45 minutes – perhaps not too surprising considering most of the players had already played several friendlies before this one.

His replacement, Diallo, opened the scoring within a few minutes of being on the pitch.

However, United finished their pre-season campaign with a draw after Alvaro Garcia equalized with half an hour remaining.

But whether Ronaldo saw the second half is up for debate.

That’s because it’s being claimed that he left the stadium before the final whistle.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo may have been given permission by Ten Hag to leave the match early for a number of different reasons.

But, without an explanation, it’s not a particularly good look for someone wanting to leave the club.

We haven’t heard the end of this one…

Ahead of the friendly, Ten Hag admitted Ronaldo won’t be at the same level as his teammates.

“He is not on the level of the rest of the squad because he missed a lot of weeks. But he needs games and he needs training, a lot,” Ten Hag said.
